Chihuahua Pug Mix: Chug Dog Information and Pictures

When you decide to get a designer dog, especially the Chihuahua pug mix, you need to base your decision on how you gel with the dog and not on what you have heard. So, why are we writing about him you ask? Well, we know his parents, so we can help you get an idea as to what you might expect. So, we are here to keep the guidelines.

There is one thing that we know for sure, and that is he is really friendly and would love his humans to pieces. This is a small to medium sized dog and would be perfectly happy in most houses. His height would vary depending on the size of his parents.

Temperament

So you might be the biggest fan of both pugs and chihuahua and might think that the world needs one dog that combines the both, but you need to remember he might have the negatives of both the breeds as well like health issues and not desirable behavioral traits. So you need to be mentally prepared for this. Both think that they are really special and demand to be treated in the same way. This trait also makes them both feel they are superior to others so they might be angry when they encounter dogs that are bigger than them. Proper socialization from the day you meet would solve this issue.

Exercise Requirement

They need moderate exercise, daily walks, a regular game of fetch, you know what we are talking. He could also help you become more calm and relaxed. This dog is also used as a therapy dog. If he gets more of Pug, he would be forever hungry. It will be your job to ensure that he is not overfed. Just like humans, if your pug chihuahua mix is overweight, he will have a lot of health issues in the long run.

Training Input needed

The chug pup is very intelligent, and so the training would be a piece of cake. But then again, since they overthink of themselves, there will be times where you would rather give up than make them do your bidding. The only way to avoid this is to ensure that they are trained as soon as possible. When they are younger they wish to please you, so the training is much easier. They tend to become stubborn as and when they grow up, which could be a hindrance to proper training.

Both Pug and Chihuahua are known for their stubborn nature, and this would mean training their kid would be a task. If you make the training fun and games, by indulging him with treats, you can make training look like a game and thus win his attention and thus, successfully train him. But then again, this does not guarantee that you will sail through the training sessions. Be funny, understand him and be patient, that is the key to being with the Chug dog.

Some important facts about this breed

  • This dog is a pet. So, he will not survive if you bring him home but do not let him inside. It would break his heart, and honestly, it is no life for a member of a family.
  • Since the coat’s length is moderate, you might be faced with shedding. Regular brushing would keep his coat healthy and smooth.
  • Small children might harm them, so they should not be placed in a home with little kids.

How to decide which dog to bring home?

Any dog should be happy. He should also not be overly angry or anxious. If you are lucky enough to meet the parents, make sure that none of the parents behave in either of the ways, that would be a huge red flag, and you should shy away from getting the pup.

Train him from the day one to get the best results. If you wait for more than six months, the dog would know his place in your heart and home, and you can kiss that perfect vision of having a dog who does your bidding out of the window.

You can send them off to a trainer, or to a class to be socialized but do it with caution as a young pup is not vaccinated, and he might catch something. Try to ensure that the training happens in a secure environment of your home till he gets his shots. You can even enlist the help of your friends and family to help you in the task of socializing your dog.

All in all, make a list of the kind of dog you want and then discuss with your breeder. Ask him which dog would be the best for you. Meet his parents, meet him, look at him interacting with his surroundings as well as you and your family, see if his nature and personality work with you. If all boxes tick, adopt him.
